The champion Cornet left Katowice after bereavement

The tournament in Katowice, which is the category WTA International, will have a new champion. This happened after Alize Cornet suffered a loss in the quarterfinals and failed in her attempt to defend the trophy from the last season.

The Frenchwoman slid with 2:6, 0:6 to the 20 years old Slovakian Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in a match that lasted just over an hour.

It is important to note that Cornet had physical problems and ended the game with a large bandage on her left thigh.

In the second part Cornet had several excellent opportunities to win at least a game to her account and to avoid the "nut", but at the end it did not happen and she recorded one of the worst losses in her career.

At the semi-final Schmiedlova will face the Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck. She beat her compatriot Kirsten Flipkens with 6:2, 6:4.

Later today will be played the other two quarterfinals in the tournament, as the battle that grabs the most interest is that between the leader of the scheme Agnieszka Radwanska and Klara Koukalova.
